git clone https://github.com/naklirajveerfr/Interlude-Music.git
cd Interlude-Music
./gradlew assembleFossDebug
# first build may take several minutes
# APK output: app/build/outputs/apk/foss/debug/
adb install -r app/build/outputs/apk/foss/debug/*.apk
Install a JDK and the Android SDK — Android Studio can set up both. The first build downloads dependencies and may take several minutes.
With USB debugging enabled, run adb install -r against the generated APK. If multiple APKs exist, install the desired one by filename instead of using *.
After a successful build, the debug APK is generated at app/build/outputs/apk/foss/debug/. See the contribution guide for the release build process.
Interlude is actively being developed and receives regular updates and fixes.
Crossfade between songs with an optional gapless mode for same-album tracks. Listening cache, downloads, built-in equalizer, and sleep timer are all available.
Tempo detection and BPM-matched mixing are fully implemented. The player analyzes the current and next track, gradually matches their tempos, and times the transition around fade-outs. Read the technical guide.
Musixmatch is available as a lyrics provider alongside SimpMusic and BetterLyrics. Per-song lyric provider selection remains active until changed back to automatic.
More quality-of-life improvements are on the way, making the app smoother and easier to use. Track progress on GitHub Issues.
Smoother playback, faster startup, and small refinements that keep everything feeling effortless.
Roadmap last updated: .
A quiet alternative to the modern music player.
I'm Rajveer, creator of Interlude Music. I decided to create this app because I was tired of all the other music clients. Some had decent features but an ugly UI; some had no good features but a good UI. So I built Interlude to excel in every aspect of a music player app.
Most YouTube Music clients are crowded. They push recommendations, surface ads between tracks, and quietly upload your listening data to servers you never agreed to. Interlude is a deliberate step back from all of that. It is a free, open-source Music Player for Android, built as a fork of Metrolist, around a single idea: your music should play, and nothing else should get in the way.
Disclaimer: Interlude is an unofficial client and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google or YouTube.
Interlude is built with Jetpack Compose and follows Google's Material 3 Expressive design language — including wavy progress components. The interface adapts to your wallpaper, your system theme, and your device's color palette, so the player looks like it belongs on your phone, not someone else's. There are two player styles (Default and Full Art), three player button shapes (Round, Pill, and Apple Music style), custom player button colors, and customizable backgrounds for the player, mini player, and menus — blur, transparent, gradient, or opaque.
Unlike most third-party music players, Interlude ships with zero trackers and zero analytics. There is no account to create, no cloud sync you didn't ask for, and no telemetry beacon phoning home. Your library, playlists, and listening habits stay on your device. The full source code is published under the GPL-3.0 license on GitHub, so anyone can audit it, fork it, or contribute to it.
Interlude also supports word-for-word synchronized lyrics fetched live from multiple providers — SimpMusic, BetterLyrics, and Musixmatch — with a customizable provider priority order and a per-song provider override. It includes features inherited from Metrolist — Listen Together, Discord Rich Presence, Last.fm scrobbling, and Google Cast. It's a privacy-first client that doesn't punish you for wanting a clean, calm listening experience. Interlude is a personal project that is actively evolving, so some features may still have rough edges.
Interlude would not exist without these open-source projects.
./gradlew assembleFossDebug, and the APK lands in app/build/outputs/apk/foss/debug/. See the contribution guide.
